When is it good preventative maintenace to replace a timeing belt?

160K is about as bad as not replacing the brake fluid every 30K/5 years, coolant every 2yr/30K and ATF, (automatic transmission fluid if yours is an auto) - every 30K or 5 years.
In 40 years of driving dozens of cars vans 100,000 plus miles a year, never ever changed one. Suppose i have been lucky.
How many miles are on the car? If it breaks it can cause you more money worth of damage.Technically i think there is a certain amount of miles you should get a new one by,but not so common as changing other things out. maybe from 60k - 100k? Call around. While your at it you should get some other things done while its apart. Andy probly sold the car at 100,00 leaving it up to the second or third buyer, that could have got screwed in the long run.If you plane on keeping the car for a long time, and it has over 100,000 miles and probly has never been replaced you probly should get it done.
10 thousand ks before manufacturer recommendss
160k yea RITE ... you cant tell us when the last belt was installed and nobody can but you and i got a qu 4 you YR MAKE MODEL eng size AC pwr strng ???? you go svc just a belt the next will be the IDLER PULLEY water pump ac bearing as well as the power stering pump at the max and a smog pump , BUT it is pending on the YR MAKE AND MODEL ECT ?????? like to help but no info no can do at worst if the belt goes and doesnt get hung up in the fan youre good if you do the belt and no pulley belt snaps -ripps your raditor up tears apart your fan clutch as well as just doing you wrong id say better get your chit sviced or pay big dollar
haynes manual recommends it be changed every 65,000 miles or 5 years whichever comes first,if the belt snaps it can cause extreme damage to your engine and cost quite a bit to repair more so on a diesel engine. Many modern cars have a 100,000 mile recommended change on them but I doubt the manufacture would accept liability if it snapped before then.Hope this helps you
