Is it possible to construct an aircraft with a nuclear engine?

The Convair NB-36H flew a total of 47 times in the 1950, with a nuclear reactor on board (that did not power any airplane system, the engines were burning common aircraft fuel). It was meant simply to see what could be done. Each flight had the plane shadowed by several other aircraft, one of which was filled with paratroopers would would jump in the event the NB-36H would crash to secure the area from radio-active debris. They even had to maintain a hotline link direct to the US president in case of trouble.

The USSR also fitted a nuclear reactor in a Tu-95 bomber, it powered two of the 4 engines, and flew at least twice in the late 1950
