If i pull up my emergency break, the light comes on, but it doesn't work. i drive a 5 speed, so i need the emergency break! how do i fix this?
Could be that it is disconnected, or seized inside the cable. May have to be replaced. I most commonly run into it being seized or broken inside the cable but you never really know. Take it to a reputable mechanic to check and be sure.
tell us what kind of car or truck you have and we will be able to do a lot more to help you. Most emergency brakes are cable operated and have a slack adjuster some where in them. with out some information on the kind of vehicle you have I can't be specific. Also some vehicles with 4 wheel disc brakes I have seen the caliper go bad like on late 70's to 85 buick Rivera's and 82 and up Comoros and Firebirds.
Well you need to check the cable, it runs to your rear breaks. You can adjust it if possible. Or it could be replaced. Did you just get the car, did this just happening, did you hit something? questions that you need to research
See a mechanic. There are too many possibilities for anyone to help you on YA.
Of course, that won't stop the ignorant from offering their opinions.
By the way, it's a BRAKE, not a break.
all it might need is adjusted or the back brakes needs adjusted up a little bit tighter against the drums.

1994-1997 Accord EGR Question?
This is for sure a tech question..
Keep in mind the reason I started looking into my EGR valve was because I had a check engine light on and it gave me a code of 12. When I refereed to my Haynes manual it called for testing of the vacuum and the lift sensor( the EGR valve).
Today, I tested it the way the haynes manual said and according to all tests.. everything is normal except for one oddity. Also keep in mind at this point the check engine light was not on at all the entire time.
Ok.. So I checked for a vacuum from the control.. NONE.
I put 8 inches of mercury vacuum on the EGR valve.. it held the vacuum with no problem. The oddity was that the car was supposed to stall at 8 in/mg .... it did not stall though it did sound like it wanted to.
Anyways.. after doing these tests everything seemed normal.. So with the fact that the check engine light was not on.. does this mean I have an intermittent problem? Also whats the chances of it being electrical?
Has anyone seen these same symptoms before?
The EGR valve only opens at higher engine speeds, not at idle. At higher engine speeds, enough vacuum is created to open this device. The main thing is to either keep the valve clean, or disconnect it entirely. It is used to reduce pollution. You can accomplish more pollution -wise by installing a set of Iridium or Iridium/ Titanium plugs and disconnecting the valve. If there is an electrical connector, then you can't disconnect the valve without triggering the computer. Good Luck!!!

Can you change your oil too many times?
i usually change mine every 1500 miles or every 2 months
no, it usually depends on how you drive. Forced induction cars need changes more frequently
If the car is a 1950s or 60s model car you are fine doing it that often. If it is a newer fuel injected car you are wasting your money you can go to at least 3000 miles or even longer. My 05 goes to 5000 miles and the oil isn't even that dirty when I have it changed.
You can never change your engine too often, but every 1500 miles is a bit too soon if you consider your pocketbook. Most auto manufacturers recommend an oil change every 3000 to 5000 miles.
Its your money but 1500 miles is to frequent now days with the cars running cleaner you could safely run to 5000 miles on a oil change depending on the environment but at least 3000 miles under serve duty.
1500 miles is to often. Try changing to 3000 miles or every 3 months.
They say every 3000 miles, but i think what you are doing is ok. After all some cars might require changes more frequently.
1500 miles is pretty frequent. 3000 would easily work for most cars.

My car makes a ticking sound, is this normal?
I recently bought a 2003 Honda Civic Ex Coupe Manual Transmission, about 106,000 miles on it, engine runs great, purrs, no lights are on, everything seems PERFECT about the car, except, I notice a ticking sound, and I'm wondering if it is normal or not.
For a better description of the ticking sound, it only does it about 1/3rd of the time I'm slowing down or accelerating, and it ONLY makes the noise if I'm taking off from a stop, or slowing down to a stop, and not all of the time, about 1/3rd as I said. Now, it seems to do it more often in reverse, from a stop starting to back up. It sounds like it is coming from the center of my car from front to back, and maybe a little to the passenger side, its a definate click sound, there is no car movement from it, no shake, or jar, or anything, just a click. It could be perfectly normal, idk, just seeing if anyone has an idea.
Loose heat shields on the exhaust system.
They spot weld them on at the factory, the weld breaks, they vibrate, they warm up and expand with exhaust heat, "Tick" , then cool down, "more Ticking" .
Honda loves putting heat shields on the exhaust system to lessen the transferred heat between the exhaust and the undercarriage of the car, and the ground, in case you park in a pile of dry leaves or something.
Locate the offending heat shield, remove it, tack weld it back on, etc.
I wouldn't worry about it. It could be something shaking around in the AC, could be a part just hitting against something, a loose bolt... It could be a million things. If youre worried about it, take it to a mechanic. Sullivan Tire is really good about just looking at things and giving free estimates.
Sounds like it might be your valve lifters. They might need a slight adjustment or sometimes a slightly thicker viscosity oil will quiet noisy lifters.
Check your exhaust flange gasket, often a leaking gasket at the head or the collector will make a ticking noise.
Check the oil and transmission fluid, that ticking could be the last sound your engine makes before it seizes up.
Check your brake pads. They have a clicker mechanism that alerts you to replace them.
NOOOOOOO check oil now

Is it inadvisable to use both A/C and recirculation buttons at the same time?
No. The people who manufactured your car would not have allowed such a setting if it were not advisable. The deal is, like others have said, when you use the recirculate setting, the air inside the car is being cooled, and recirculated, which actually helps the A/C by keeping it from working so hard. If you are constantly cooling hot outside air before it is brought into the car, the A/C has to work harder to keep the inside of the car cool. The down side to using the recirculate setting is that the air inside the car isn't replaced with fresh outside air as much, so if you have a car full of sweaty people, smokers, people with smelly shoes, or other sources of odors, those odors stay in the car instead of being replaced with fresh outside air. In damp weather, it's better not to use the recirculate setting since the inside of the windows tends to fog up more because of the moisture generated by your breathing. One good thing about the recirculate feature is that if you are about to pull in behind a smokey diesel truck or other fume-belching vehicle, you can set the controls to recirculate so your car doesn't suck as much of that crap into the car.
No, not at all. If you recirculate the air in the car it will allow it to get colder in the cabin. On really hot days you should run it on max with at least one window part way down then when it starts cooling off and you run the hot air out, roll up the window and switch it to recirculate.
the first guy who answered your question is wrong. it is perfectly fine to use recirc with ac. the ac will actually blow colder with this setting
No. It will suck the colder cabin air back in and actually make for colder ac. A lot of cars have a Max Ac setting which activates the recirc.
Yes not only will it make it colder but will be easier on the compressor which will not have to run as much win win
well it could blow some fuses, or mess up some wiring but. i would'nt advise it.

I need to get my truck painted, I need a tune up, and i'd like to put bigger tires on. How much would it cost me??
I've got a 05 dodge ram 3500 extended cab long bed, 4wd, dulley,
if you want a cheapy paint job take it to earl shybe or macco for 500$, tune up 150$ make if your just doing plugs and wires, and tires depends on what size and make so 200-500 a tires it could run you
painting couldd be around six thousand dollars for that big ole truck
tune up i dont know what you meant by that adding perfromance parts or checking to make sure everythings running ok walmart checks your car for problems for free tires might be 200 dollars a a peace it really depends on brand
Depends on where you take the truck. Could be several thousand dollars or more.

Installing universal muffler on my car?
can i install my muffler using jb weld?
unfortunatley no.
you need to be safe up to around 800 degrees for a muffler connection (not that it will get that hot) but JB weld is probably only good for up to about 400 degrees and will degrade around 250.
clamps and/or welding are the only way u can go.
JB weld is an amazing substance but no. The heat and vibration of an exhaust with crack it. Just get some exhaust clamps they're not very expensive.
echaust clamps.. but dpending on the car, it may not run properly

Is schooling required to be a smog tester?
opt: how much money do these guys usually make an hour?
I have been doing inspection for over 30 years and yes you need to attend state schooling but you don't make a lot unless you own the shop...

How much do you think it would cost to have these parts replaced?
Car needs some items replaced, so going to get a new water pump, thermostat, timing belt, servicing belt, alternator belt, and all the gaskets for them. Also getting the oil changed and radiator flushed, guy said he'd do it for $650, you think that's fair?
Cars a 1993 ford probe gt 2.5L V6.
hmmm. you should only need one belt(10). and one timing chain(20). water pump/gasket wont be to cheap(150,10)), t stat should be cheap(20), oil change easy(20), inexpensive and radiator fluch not to bad (40). im thinking around:
300$ in parts (if that), and maybe(?) 220$ in labor.. so if you pay him 550 cash im sure he'd be fine with it..
If this is the Mazda based engine, the items you need are very pricey. This IS a good deal, if the tech is using all genuine factory replacement parts, and not skimming with cheaper aftermarket parts. There is a special skill involved in completing this task correctly, but using inferior parts will compromise the longevity of the repair. Buy your own parts from the dealer, and then ask how much to install. Or, get all the receipts for where the parts came from. Good Luck!!!

After Neutral Saftey Switch was Changed Van Still wont start?
I have a 1989 E150, For a few days I could start the Van by Moving the Gear Shift lever around and she would start, so I changed the Neutral Safety Switch, well to my wonderment, I still have to wiggle the gear shift lever to start.. Help. What next. ( The van does start right up, once you finds its happy spot )
there should be a slide adjustment at the switch..put the slector lever where you want it and while try to start the van..slide the switch until it starts..tighten it there and you should be fine...

Exhaust Tip,Trim, please help ?
Hi i wanna get an exhaust trim/tip for my fiest mk6 06 plate
the exhaust points down so what exhaust tip do i need, i would like to be able to see it from under the car if poss, althought their is no groove in the car for it to come out straight...
and also do the trims make a louder exhaust sound ?, i know mufflers do, but i dont want it sounding stupid, maybe a tiny bit deeper if anything
and help would be great asap, thanks
James
cut the curved end off of the tailpipe with a hacksaw and get a chromed straight tip of your choice, get one that has the 3 screws on it to tighten it down to the tailpipe and no it won't change the sound of your car at all, it's just for looks.

Help! Car part name...?
What do you call the part of the car that covers the bottom of the front of the car?
Or do you know of a website where I can see different parts of the car so I'll have the name.
I know it sounds all weird, but my car has been acting weird ever since that bottom piece got thorn, and the mechanics I've seen all say different things about axles and struts (I ended up paying close to $1500) but the car still feels weird.
Help?
Is it a large piece of plastic that goes under the engine? If so it is called the front undertray.
If it is a piece that just fits under the bumper and doesn't extend back under the car it is called a spoiler.
Both will make the car less stable at speed.
either what the other answerer said or maybe, if you hav a truck or suv, a skidplate

How do I find the right size rim for my car?
There's a old abandoned house across from my place with 40 different old car rims in the yard, How do I figure out which one will fit my car. I'm assuming to just bring a tape measure over there and measure them individually?
Basically you are right about measuring, but sometimes it gets a bit more complicated as you go. not only do you need to measure the diameter and width of the rim, the lug pattern must be exactly the same, the rim "offset" must be the same, the center "hub" hole should be the same, and in some cases the bolt hole chamfer/bevel must be the same degree pitch.
Obviously not all rims are created equal, and some rims are different just because of whether they are made for two wheel or four wheel drive vehicles...

Check all the fluids, oil, coolant. The fuel is going to be stale, so add a can of fuel stabilizer to the tank. Put a charger on the battery, if it won't take a charge it will have to be replaced.
Once all the fluids are topped off and the battery up, pull the spark plugs and turn the engine over to make sure it will turn and isn't frozen. If it turns, check the plug gap and put the plugs back in. Use a small amount of starting fluid, and see if it will start. It may take a bit before it settles down and runs smoothly and at a decent idle.
Once you have it up and running, check the tires and belts and hoses and replace as needed. Good luck with it.
Start off by changing the oil and gas, put a new battery in, then swap out the spark plugs. If you are a little car savy you could sand the contact points on the distributor to get any rust off of them. If you do that it should turn over at least if it is not seized. You will be able to tell if it's siezed almost instantly once you turn the key because it wont turn over.
Charge the battery so it will turn over.
Change the oil so the oil pump will circulate the oil faster to the upperside of the engine.
Buy a can of either and spray some in the carburetor before starting, that will really help it start quicker.

What is front wheel drive on a car.?
I have a 98 Grand Am GT they say is front wheel drive. What is front wheel drive and how much trouble can I expect from it?
It means the power of the vehicle is produced by the front two tires, which means, the front two tires are how the vehicle moves.
You shouldn't expect much trouble, it's actually very beneficial. This is why so many cars these days are engineered as front wheel drive.
Simply means the front wheels are the pulling wheels as opposed to rear wheel like old cars or trucks.

Why cant a body lift kit be used with a suspension lift kit?
vehicle in question 92 dakota
It can but you may have to make additional modifications.
i know tons of people who have trucks setup like that. typically you can only get 2 or 3" body lift kits. a body lift has the advantage of not raising your center of gravity as much as a normal suspension lift. and as for cornering umm who would expect good cornering on any kind of lifted vehicle. the only thing would be what your local laws are if you plan on driving it on the street.
you can get a suspension lift and body kit on any vehicle, i wouldnt suggest it, but its possible, it will be too high and unsafe
me i have both on my truck, 4in body 2.5 susp, its awesome but its very unstable on corners
It can be... Body lift is a cheaper way to give you more room on the wheel wells for larger wheels/

2005 Altima leaks water into the oil. Head Gasket?
2005 Altima 2.5 I have noticed that there is water in the oil when I check the dip stick. I am thinking head gasket. Has anyone repaired one of these before?
Yes. Check that your coolant level is dropping. This will prove that the gasket is leaking. Watch for signs of water formation in your tailpipe. Soem condensation in the oil is normal on cold, damp, or humid days. It will burn off as the engine heats up. If you have an excess. like the oil is milky, then you may need a new head gaskte. This is an expensive undertaking, as the heads will have to be heated, reshaped, and milled at an appropriate engine shop to prepare for re-installation. Also, it is tricky because you are dealing with the timing belt and other pulleys. You might be able to get away with having your head bolts re-torqued to factory spec's, in order, one-at-a-time. Do this with the engine hot. It should be able to pull the head back into shape if it has over-heated. Use only Genuine Nissan coolant, never mix it with anything but h2o. Also, be sure that your idle air control valve is clean. If it is not working properly or if the PCV valve is not, it can cause water formation that acts like a head gasket problem. Good Luck!!
If you find that there's milky colour sticking out of the dip-stick, then you're right. It's a blown head-gasket. A top over-haul could solve everything. All the best.
yep that,s what it is, the head gasket.

If you find that there's milky colour sticking out of the dip-stick, then you're right. It's a blown head-gasket. A top over-haul could solve everything. All the best.
yep that,s what it is, the head gasket.
Do car body parts come primed and ready to paint?
I just ordered a new drivers side front fender for my car. The best price I can find around here to paint it (even if I bring the thing in without it being on the car) its around $180.00.
Anyway, I found some stuff online saying that it is really easy to do yourself. But it is instructions for how more or less to RE-paint it. Sand it down and all.
But what do you say? if I buy some spray paint, do 2 coats and then put a clear coat on, will that be cool?
Any tips would be helpful.
Thanks!
The spray paint will not look very good when it dries, not even with clear coat. It will be hard to get the right coloration, and spray paint tends to leave very un-even surfaces after the paint dries. You can do it yourself, it will be much cheaper than having an auto-body/paint shop do it , but will not look very good compared to a professional job.
The part *SHOULD* be primed for $180 otherwise you got ripped off. 99% of the time parts like bumpers, fenders, doors, are already primed (white) and yes you can spray paint them and clear coat them. I personally have never had any luck spray painting car parts. They always end up looking like crap. You really gotta do a lot of sanding and airbrushing if you want them to look right.
Try bringing the part to a MACCO or collision expert. See if they%26#039;ll paint the part for $50-$150. If they can it%26#039;ll look infinitely better than anything you%26#039;d be able to do in your garage/basement for a quarter of the price.
You might have tried finding a used fender through a salvage yard or Car-Parts.com. The color might be a little off but would look definitely better than spray paint.
that,s all that,s on them is primer. it,s up to you to get it painted.

Can my car pass emissions with the check engine light on?
what are the chances it passes with the light on?
i has a crap load of miles, 201K lol, its a 98 honda accord
i live in VA if that makes a difference.
Nope. Its not even legal to test a car with the ck eng light on.
VA is of of the worst states for inspections. they used to make you get one every 6 months. good luck.

When do you need to get a new cam belt fitted?
Will the garage check and tell you if you need a new one when you have an MOT/Service? Or is this something you need to keep a check on yourself? My car's done 87,000 miles, so I think I need to get a new cam belt. Any advice? And how much should this cost (it's a ford focus ghia)
Read your owner's manual.. It will be very specific about when to change the belt. I have done one recently, and if you don't know what you are doing, you can make a mess of things! At this time, you should change the tensoiner and other related pulleys. It can be costly due to the price of parts. Use only genuine Ford parts. Shop for best price on internet. Most better dealerships have E-mail directly into their parts department. This engine was designed by Porsche for Ford. An experienced tech can do without special tools, but it is still a small challenge. The fron damper must be removed. Good Luck!!

Why is my car steering wheel more towards the right?
when the car is parked straight & the wheels are straight
Either your steering/tracking adjustment needs fixing or you have an under inflated tyre on one side.
If you have recently done any work on it, ensure that the steering wheel was put back on exactly straight.
When you are driving the car in a straight line is the steering wheel straight or ****** over to one side?
Its possible that when the car had is wheel alignment done in the past, the fitter wh did the work adjusted the wheel alignment with out making sure that the steering wheel was central.
Ja.
Assuming that you had your tracking adjusted recently and you have not been smacking your car into the kerb. The person who adjusted your tracking was lazy because they didn't adjust by an even amount on either side, this would certainly make your steering wheel look crooked when your wheels point straight forwards.Could also be bent track rod.
If you mean the whole wheel is tilted towards the right of the car, then that is the same on all cars with right hand drive. If you mean the 'spokes' are not dead ahead in line, then the previous answers are correct.
you might have hit something in the front, which cause the steering system to skip a tooth. The steering is about gears, and it you skip a tooth it will cause the wheel not to be aligned with the wheels.
either the right wheel doesnt hav enough air in it or the arm underneath is worn, it could be the rack, easily adjusted, jus tlook in hyanes manual
Take ur car to a tire shop and get it alligned. happend to my car its jus from hittin pottholes and other things.
your wheel alignment is probably off.
just take it to a mechanic and they will re-align it (:

Broken Bolt Problem.?
While attempting to take a bolt out of my intake manifold (stainless steel) the extractor broke insde of the whole.. Te xtractor is stainless steel... How can I take it out? would heating the part work? drilling?? Help Please!
What does the bolt hold together? Could matter... Odds are you're going to have to drill it out and re-thread the hole, you'll need a tap and die set...
EDIT... You could try using a drill bit (smaller than the hole), and maybe it'd spin the extractor out since the extractor should be reverse threaded. I'd probably try once without heat and then heat it if that doesn't work... Then once it's free, use a magnet to pick it out of the hole...
I would try heating the extractor and bolt if you are able to and removing the extractor. If you cant get it out with heat, you're going to have to cut it off. If you can cut it flush with the broken bolt that would be best. Then drill the bolt out and re-thread. Cobalt drill bit or diamond tipped drill bit.
Usually extractors break because they had been inserted unevenly or not to center. Or sometimes just because the bolt is really stuck in there good.
I suggest heading to your local hardware shop and getting the drill bit attachment that's made for this.
Sorry, just read you were using the xtractor and that's what broke. Oh boy, I'm not sure what to do next. Sorry.
do you know how hard it is to drill a extractor ? it,s very hard. you might try a diamond head bit and try to drill it out.

Where do you go when you dicover that your name and ssn shows up in a state you
where do I go to find out, with out haveing a big hassle.
You need to alert the three credit bureaus that you may be a victim of fraud.
Experian: 888.397.3742
Equifax: 800.525.6285
TransUnion: 800.680.7289
If you call one of these numbers they will contact the other two for you and put a fraud alert on your credit report. They will each send you contact info in the mail and you can request a copy of your credit reports to look for any irregularities.
This just recently happened to me. Someone tried to use my name and SSN to attempt to buy 4 Verizon cell phones and accounts to ship them to Miami. Luckily Verizon contacted me to verify the purchase.
Shows up how? Like someone there is using it? if it is not authorized to use it then contact the authorities. you could be looking at identity theft.
if you've got a sister or aquaintance who has been there, ask them about it. then contact the authorities and credit bureau and report it.

Where can I get car insurance for my group 18 vehicle so thamy brother from Argentina can drive it temporarily?
My brother is visiting me in June ans staying for 3 weeks. I want to insure him so he can use my Porsche wheels ;-) BUT my current insurer will not insure non EU licenses. He has an international Argentine drivers license and no convictions, etc. So far I found two major hurdles: license being non-eu and car being group 18. Can inyone recommend an insurer/broker to get this done? Thanks! - This question applies to UK btw.. not sure the scope of users this will go to ;-)
I think your only answer is to change your own policy to either 'any driver' or 'self and family only' Don't know if you can do the second.
He should be able to get a third party insurance in his own name when he gets here. Check if he can do that for any vehicle and tell him not to state that his licence is non-UK as he is entitled to drive on it in UK for a set period (don't know how long)
Meanwhile try to just declare that he has a full licence only and not it's origin, which is the truth. Most Insurance Companies will issue a 'Third Party Only' insurance if you trust him enough not to 'bend' it.
Hope this helps
try going to the norwich union website, you may be able to either take out apolicy with them for 12 months or at one point they offered a temporary cover that you could take out for a week or so to cover you driving a vehicle.
your current insurer shouldnt really be restricting licences like that, as long as your brother holds an international licence and has not been in the uk for more that 12 months you should be able to add him as a temporary driver.
Your final difficulty being that its a porsche most insurers will ask that he has experience of driving this kind of vehicle. it may just be easier to hire a car for the duration of he trip and quite possibly cheaper!!
autoinsurance.maclenet.com - try this one. I have their car insurance and, as I know, they can provide such a service.

What is the fine for no proof of vehicle insurance in Minnesota? What can I do?
I borrowed a car and got pulled over for not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign. I called the owner and he added the insurance that same day. I took the papers to DMV and they said they would not accept it since it was dated the same day. I got a hearing time a couple of months from now. Is this a felony for me? What might the fine be? I'm not sure on anything.
It's not a felony, but since you were the driver, you are responsible for this, even though it's your friend's car. I think your friend should pay any fine you may have to pay, since technically he put you in this mess.
The penalty can be a sentence for imprisonment and a fine of not less than $200 but not more than the maximum fine applicable to misdemeanors (since the offense is a misdemeanor). In addition to the fine a person convicted of this might also have their driver's license revoked.

I have no one to teach me how to drive!!
I am 23 years old. I went away to college, and I still dont drive. I never got my license. I got my permit in college. But, no one has time to teach me how to drive in my family, but I don't want to go to other people outside my family, b/c they're not dependable. I am unemployed right, but I'm getting interviews so things are looking good. But, I can't really afford to get driving lessons right now because they're really expensive. What can I do? My dad bought a car for me from someone couple yrs ago, but I can't even drive it. I can't even practice in it, because they claim they're too busy.
What can I do? Is there something really cheap that I could do? Do I have any options??
10 points best answer!!!
That is what is wrong with America today, they want to have kids, but make excuses and lets everyone else do their work. But anyway, in your situation I would just save up and go to driving school, I quit depending on people because of the same thing happened to me.
You must have a friend who can help.
I am 19 and do not have my drivers license either and need to get it...
your parents should MAKE TIME to teach you..how about right when they get home..tell them hoe important it is too u..if not they are mean??why don't u practice on ur own.. you have a car!!!
Sounds to me like you're making excuses for not driving, and don't really want to. And there is nothing wrong with that. My mother in law never drove, never felt a need to, and never had a license.
But if you went away to college, you know someone who would take the time to teach you how to drive. You can't tell me everyone you know is not dependable. Well you can, but I don't believe it. If the car bought for you is in your name, it's your car. And if it's your car, they can't stop you from using it to learn to drive. If it's not, forget it.
If you really want to learn, you will come up with someone to help, or the money for professional lessons.
Good luck.

Are SUVs expensive to insure?
I'm looking to buy my first car and have decided I want an a small SUV such as a Ford Escape or Hyundai Tucson. I know since I'm young and will need full coverage the insurance will be expensive either way. But, are small SUVs more expensive to insure than say an ordinary vehicle like a Honda Accord? If so, about how much would you estimate percent wise. thanks
A lot of it has to do with your age, driving record, marital status and other insured property like a home. When we got rid of my wife's '99 base model Cavalier for an '06 Mercury Mariner 4x4 luxury package, our insurance premium barely went up.
It depends in a lot of factors and its very hard to tell you, but you can easily know that by getting quotes online, you can do it here

Has anyone ever heard of a tire tax?
My sister and brother-in-law tried to buy a car from this guy and he included a tax for each tire!!! wth is with that?
Private sellers cannot collect taxes, period, it is against the law. A non-retailer doesn't have a collection agreement, so that yahoo is only trying to get a few more bucks for the car. Many states/provinces have tire tax, but it is payable only on brand new tires purchased from retailers, and is intended as a disposal levy, but paid in advance.

I will be storing my vehicle at the garage for a while. And my registration is soon to renew. If I pay for non-operational vehicle fee, do I still have to pay any auto insurance for this non-operating car?
If I do, what's the minimum coverage i should get? thanks!
You do not need to insure a vehicle that is not on the road.

What do you do when you had major work done on your car but the company is no longer in business?
i've had ball bearings and rack and pinion done and its possible they may already need replaced only after 3 or 4 yrs. i know that both places that did the work are no longer in business. do i have a warranty past the first yr and how do i remedy it?
Best bet would be to take it to a mechanic and have them check it out first to make sure that its your ball bearings and rack. Then go from there! Not sure what else to do!
You are petty much out of luck. Most places only warranty that type of work for 90 days. They usually blame it on your driving habits and road conditions where you live as well as not maintaining the vehicle properly. However; Don't know what state you live in; but, some states have a Consumer affairs division in the Department of Motor Vehicles who may or may not be able help you. If they only moved to another part of the State than the DMV would still have business license authority over them and may get you some kind of compensation. Good Luck.

Do I need insurance when I drive my used car home?
I am getting a car from my aunt, and will need to drive it home. Is it legally allowed to drive the car home as soon as the title is signed over to me without innsurance and then not drive it again until it is insured? If this is allowed I was planing on getting it innsured no more than 2 days later. thanks
No... what if you got in an accident on your way home? Without insurance, you would be sued. And ticketed severely.
Sure as long as you are careful..... Of course not. If anything should happen you got zero coverage.
Yes, you should have some sort of cover in place that lets you take the car home.
You can not drive a car that isn't insured!!
If you already have insurance on another car, it usually covers for short time.
Befor you drive it anywhere you will need to get it registered, insured, and put plates on it.
No No No! Get someone else to take it home for you. Be patient, you have a car, and in a couple of days you will have the insurance to drive it.
Think how you will pay the damages if you injure or kill someone on the way home from your Aunts? It's just not worth it for the sake of a couple of days.

No No No! Get someone else to take it home for you. Be patient, you have a car, and in a couple of days you will have the insurance to drive it.
Think how you will pay the damages if you injure or kill someone on the way home from your Aunts? It's just not worth it for the sake of a couple of days.
I have a silly question about purchasing a car...?
So I am buying my first car next week and I was wondering what happens when I drive it off the lot. Do I just drive it away with no licence plate and insurance and then get it afterward? What happens with that? I tried searching online, but couldn't find much info about it! Thanks!
The dealer will get you plates, registration, insurance card, and inspection stickers.
No. The dealer will put a Temporary plate on the vehicle and will order your permanent one which will come in a few weeks. You have to also get an insurance "binder". Give your insurance company the info on the new vehicle and they will give you a binder which will cover you right away until you get the actual policy.
If you already have a car that is insured the dealer will call the insurance company and have the information added to that policy. If not you will need to get insurance before they can let you drive the car home. You may have to get the car information and take to an insurance agent and put a deposit down to enact the insurance. After the deal is done and the insurance is verified they will install a 30 day tag, you use that tag until your permanent license plate comes.
Most sellers have insurance which will cover you to get the car home, and probably for a couple of days after that. If you are buying
privately, the seller may have insurance for other drivers. Ask. Alternately, most insurance companies will give you temporary cover if you tell them what the car model is, yr age, etc., before you buy. Then when the car is registered, you phone the details thru.
Just don't even get into the car without insurance. It can be an expensive experience.

Who is at fault in this accident?
I was waiting behind a car at a junction in a quiet side road. the car in front pulled out of the junction and turned left. I was also turning left and followed the car out of the junction. the car in front was approaching a mini roundabout and it was free to go the car in front slammed on their brakes and i went straight into the back of them. who is to blame?
you are. always that way cos if you went in to back of them then it shows you werent paying correct care and attn and also hadnt left enough space between you to stop.
i know its annoying when they are hesitant like this but by law the accident was your fault
I%26#039;m afraid you are, simply because, as it was said, you were not paying enough attention to the car in front. Hope no one was hurt.
Yes the first answer is right. Running into the back of someone is always your fault. Unless you can prove you were stationery with the handbrake on and the other car rolled backwards into you, you%26#039;ll have to take the blame I%26#039;m afraid.
ooops, the law states that the onus is on the driver behind and its driving with out due care and attention, so you are to blame sorry.
Got to admit in situations like the one you describe it winds me up too because you cant see why they%26#039;ve slammed their brakes on, but then I have a little cus and think there must be a reason, another car coming maybe, but what ever you really need to pay attention
100% your fault.
You should always be leaving enough space between yourself and the car in front for you to brake/stop in time.

I
I'm thinking about getting a 1992 240sx coupe or a honda civic, crx, or maybe even a del sol..... so which one do you think should i get?
240sx Yeahhhh! :D
none of the above. They are all to small. Statistically, new drivers are in an accident in their first two years of driving. For those 2 years, your going to want something bigger, something that you can make some mistakes in. An accident in a Del Sol, Miata, CRX, and so on, will kill you.
CIVIC PROBABLY EASIER TO FIX PARTS ARE EASY TO FIND BUT DONT BE ONE OF THOSE GUYS THAT TRY TO RACE IT ALL OUT A LOT OF PEOPLE GET KILLED THAT WAY AT LEAST OUT HERE IN CALIFORNIA
first things first, get some more experience in driving. I crashed my first car my parents bought me when i was 16. it was a 1999 corvette 6spd.
but i would say get something you wont have to fix forever....a crx is very old...and for a engine that is older than you are...stay clear of it.
240sx, well it depends if you get a newer model like a 1995 240sx.. If its the old models then beware of high maintainance. If it has a new motor, and runs great then it would be a great all around car. powerful too. rear wheel drive is not fun when you spin out.
a civic is fairly cheap price, you can get a 1998 ex or si reasonably under 7k. I say go for a civic. front wheel drive, is a tad bit easier to handle.. great car for daily use, and falls in the middle of performance between the crx and 240.
old cars are okay! im 19 years old and i constantly drive a bmw e30 323i thats 8/ 9 years older than I am. The car still does wonders. awesome acceleration, and it can still take on most new cars on the road. Id say go for the crx
