Broken Bolt Problem.?

While attempting to take a bolt out of my intake manifold (stainless steel) the extractor broke insde of the whole.. Te xtractor is stainless steel... How can I take it out? would heating the part work? drilling?? Help Please!

What does the bolt hold together? Could matter... Odds are you're going to have to drill it out and re-thread the hole, you'll need a tap and die set...

EDIT... You could try using a drill bit (smaller than the hole), and maybe it'd spin the extractor out since the extractor should be reverse threaded. I'd probably try once without heat and then heat it if that doesn't work... Then once it's free, use a magnet to pick it out of the hole...

I would try heating the extractor and bolt if you are able to and removing the extractor. If you cant get it out with heat, you're going to have to cut it off. If you can cut it flush with the broken bolt that would be best. Then drill the bolt out and re-thread. Cobalt drill bit or diamond tipped drill bit.

Usually extractors break because they had been inserted unevenly or not to center. Or sometimes just because the bolt is really stuck in there good.

I suggest heading to your local hardware shop and getting the drill bit attachment that's made for this.

Sorry, just read you were using the xtractor and that's what broke. Oh boy, I'm not sure what to do next. Sorry.

do you know how hard it is to drill a extractor ? it,s very hard. you might try a diamond head bit and try to drill it out.
